The peacock means different things to different cultures as seen in the picture below.  This international architectural design, and in the west we associate the peacock with beauty and vanity.  “Vain as a peacock”  is an expression used to convey this idea of vanity, arrogance and pride.  The early church saw the peacock as a religious symbol; one of rebirth, immortality and the actual process of glorification. The peacock is also used in many temples, gates, and many other public places. The add vibrant color, texture, and design to all forms of architecture. For this blog post, I'm gonna step away from all this peacock mania, and focus on a deeper cause: animal abuse. 

Animal abuse is one of the most sickest, and soulless crimes in the World. However, it is also one of the most preventable. People engage in animal abuse in every city in the world, and abuse almost all animals. The  most common type of animal abuse is domestic abuse to dogs, and cats. Many of these poor animals are going through malnutrition, hair loss, injuries, animal hoarding, shock collar, and the list goes on.

Unfortunately even many birds go through such animal abuse. Although it doesn't occur as much in peacocks, there are a number of cases of peacock killings reported in the United States alone. In rural areas, some peacock are poached for their feathers, many of which are unreported.

Here's how you can help:

• Always report suspicious activity to law enforcement, or animal control
• Educate abusers about what they are doing, and why it is bad

Among the Asian people, the peacock has been a symbol of auspiciousness and beauty, as well as peace and honesty. For many generations thousands of folk dancers have been imitating the peacock dance. For those who are aware of the of the living habits of the Peacock, they can gracefully imitate the peacock. The movements of the dance are quite diverse with many dance steps. This dance is more complex than many other dances due to the complex gestures of the body imitating the arms, wrists, fingers, and even of a peacock. This dance also requires flexibility of all joints, and muscles. The dancers' change of sentiment must also reflect the changing moods of a peacock (which can be wild)!
